How To Cut A Breeze Block Quickly & Easily

DIY : Building

Breeze blocks are great {and cheap} for all sorts of building and garden projects, however you're almost certain to find that you need to cut a few of them, for instance when building a wall where you need to stagger the joints.

Fortunately, it's a lot easier than it looks to cut them {including the more solid types made of concrete mixed with small stones} even if you don't have a stone-cutting power saw.

First, mark a cutting line all the way round the block using chalk or a pencil.

Next: using a hammer and a cold chisel, work your way right round the chalk line; however note that you don't need to chisel any deeper than 1 or 2mm at this stage.

Once you've cut a line right round the block {making sure you've cut into all the edges in particular}, you'll find that a few heavy "smashes" into the centre will result in a fairly clean split - and you don't need to actually chisel your way through the entire depth of the block.

The resulting split will certainly be pretty uneven and nowhere near as straight as the outside surfaces; however this is absolutely ideal for applying concrete mix to, as it provides a solid "key".
