Debt Collection Letters And Calls Explained

Business : Payments

A debt collection letter must be issued within five days of a call from the debt collection agency informing you that you owe a debt.

You must be given the option to dispute the debt if for instance you think it is in error or the debt has already been paid off.

With regard phone calls, then any legitimate debt collector is not allowed to call you at work, if they are made aware that you can't take personal calls at work.

They are also not allowed to call for the day between 9pm and 8am. Note that there are also limits on how often the debt collector is allowed to call, as clearly a call every few minutes for instance amounts to harassment.
