How To Defer A University Place

Travel : Gap Years

If you are off to university but wish to defer it for a year in order to take a gap year, then the process that you need to follow is pretty simple.

What you need to do is tick the box in the defer column when you are filling in the UCAS form for higher education (it's in the choices section at the time of writing).

You can also apply directly to the university but ask for a deferred place, or of course apply once you have your results - ie for the following year.

The recommendation tends to be to ask for the place before the gap year so that you have the security of knowing there is a place there for you rather than having to do it during your gap year.
