How To Define An Acid

Education : Chemistry

An acid is the opposite of an alkali, but that is all that many people know about it!

So, what in chemical terms is an acid? It is quite simple.

An acid is a substance which releases hydrogen ions (H+) when it is added to water.

Acids have a pH of less than 7 on the scale. 7 is neutral, and above 7 is alkali.
