How To Develop A Reliable Run Up
Sport : Athletics It is eye opening to see that in professional events, even Olypmic level athletes seem to regularly get their run up wrong. They either overstep the mark, or else are a foot or so behind the board when they jump and thus lose valuable distance. What you should do to ensure that this does not happen to you is to decide on the number of strides that you need to get the best speed and closeness to the board when you take off. Ideally you should measure this such as your stride hits the front half of the white board (obviously not over the line or plasticine!) on your run up. Therefore start on the board, and stride back your set number of strides from the board then place your marker. Have a couple of practice runs to ensure that you have got the run up right, and if necessary adjust slightly. Then it is just a case of sticking to your run and number of strides - good luck!
