The reason that people try to avoid fats is for one simple reason: they are great at storing energy.
For those who are hungry, then that is a good thing, for most of us in the West the opposite problem is too - with too much food to eat we get fat with too much fat.
The one gram of fat contains nine calories and that is more than any other food type, so it is important that we don't have too much fat.
Of course remember that we do need some fat as part of a healthy diet. Omega-3 and 6 fats are great.
