About 20% of the population develop a phobia of something at some stage of their life. It can be of a common thing - snakes, furry spiders, rats, or something more unusual, for instance bananas. Laugh all you like, but some people really are scared of bananas. The stench of a rotting banana is enough to make some people tremble.



Beat panic attacks - always carry a bag of sweets! During these attacks slowly unwrap a sweet and suck it, concentrating on the sweet. Sometimes this can be enough to get you through a situation where you are undergoing an attack induced by your phobia. Or you could try counting in some sort of pattern, from 1-100 in multiples of 3, or 1-1000 in multiples of 13 - anything that will take your mind off things. Also try tensing and releasing your muscles in such a situation.
