Exam Technique: Essay Format

Education : Exams And Revision

One thing is for certain in many subjects - you will need to write an essay.

Whilst the content of the essay will change, the structure and form need not. Therefore plan this out before an exam and you will save time during the exam.

For instance, decide that in the introduction you will set out your main argument.

In the middle you will support this and load with your key facts and supportive evidence.

Then in the conclusion you will show clearly how your main points support the answer to the question.

Steel yourself not to repeat the question in the introduction or throughout the essay as this gains you no marks!

Note that you should keep introduction and conclusion fairly short and succinct, as all the marks will tend to come for the middle part.
