How To Excel At Work
Career : Career Techniques If you want to put in a good performance at work day in, day out, morning and afternoon then what can you do? Well surprisingly the solution is to take regular breaks! Each morning and afternoon give yourself a 10 minute break, and at lunch time take at least 30 minutes off but ideally 45 to an hour. Get yourself out the office - go for a walk to freshen your mind or even fit in a bit of exercise. All the research shows, and consistently shows, that we are able to perform much much better when we concentrate in short, sharp bursts. Those who work for long periods of time without a break have a performance level that drops and drops and drops until they are no use at all. That's why it is strange that some people work really long hours - if they knew the above fact they could achieve the same in less time and have some breaks, too! There's no point working away for 18 hours a day because you simply will achieve very little after the first 7 or so hours, whether you realise it or not. Therefore to excel at work make sure you take breaks, make the most of them, and you will be ready, alert and eager to impress and achieve a great deal during the rest of the day.
