How To Explain Weight

Education : Physics

You may be confused about terms such as mass, gravity, weight and how they relate to each other.

Well, weight, measured in Newtons, is the name given to the measure of the force of gravity acting on a mass.

This allows us to see clearly that whilst mass is constant, weight may change.

On Earth there is a gravitational force of about 10 newtons for every kilogram of mass on its surface. Hence, if your mass is 50 kg, your weight (mass x gravity) is 50 x 10 = 500 newtons
