How To Fit A Roller Blind.

DIY : Decorating

Fitting a roller blind is a very quick and easy DIY project; however by following the simple steps below, you can avoid a LOT of hard work and frustration!

First, you need to decide if you want a surface or recess mount {the brackets supplied with your blind can be used for either type of fitting} and importantly, which side you want the pull cord to be on.

BEFORE YOU START: make sure that the ‘drop’ of the blind will be clear of any window vents and handles.

The side with the pull-cord will have a “square pin” type of bracket, and you should start by attaching this to the blind. Use tape to hold it in place if required.

Offer up the blind to the window, and carefully mark the position of the bracket with a pencil, ensuring that the blind is centred across the window, and is well clear of vents and handles.

Fix the bracket to the wall or recess, and then – unrolling the blind until it just touches the window sill – re-attach the blind to the bracket to measure for the other side.

The bracket on the other side will have a “spring-tensioned” pin, and you need to allow at least 1cm {in towards the blind material} for this – if the pin doesn’t engage properly, the blind will come down on your head the first time you try to use it!

Bearing this in mind, mark the position for the second bracket, remove the blind, and fix the bracket to the window frame or casement.

Before fitting the blind to the brackets, re-roll it to leave around 6" hanging, and then clip it into place.

Once fitted, you may find that the blind doesn’t sit flush with the window ledge when it’s pulled down. If this happens, remove one bracket and insert a spacer or washer to take up the gap.
