Flat Stomach: Common Mistakes

For those in pursuit of a flat stomach through training there are some common mistakes made.

One of the most common mistakes is to isolate this group of muscles and to do no other training.

Remember that the crunches train the muscles - to give them tone and form - they do not work on burning fat. So if you have a layer of fat above them, you'll need to do standard gym work to tone up, and perhaps diet too.

The most common problem however is poor form. People find it easy to 'cheat' and use other parts of their body to help them lift up. If it's not all the work of your stomach muscles, then you lose most of the power of the exercise - other muscle groups in the body are much more powerful and will easily take over when you use them for a little help.

Resist the temptation to do so - it will defeat the purpose of the exercise!
