Foods To Avoid For A Healthy Diet

Health And Fitness : Food And Health

There are foods that are good and those that are bad for you; but often the preparation of the food is also quite important. Here are some things to bear in mind when it comes to foods to avoid for a healthy diet:

Processed foods and ready meals, as these tend to contain preservatives, colourants and other nasties together with often quite high salt levels

Also avoid acid forming foods. These are things like red meats and alcohol, together with spicy foods and sugary foods.

It is probably more worthwhile to check the ingredient list and nutrition information carefully before making any judgements as some ready meals are actually quite healthy and are a much preferable alternative to fast food when you don't have much time to whip up a meal.

What is the rationale behind avoiding acid-forming food? I can understand why you would want to avoid sugary foods, but red meat, alcohol and spicy foods can be beneficial in adequate proportions and would form part of an optimal diet.
