Gardener

Jobs : Job Profiles

Professional gardening is a chosen career path for those who love plants and the outdoors.

As a gardener, you will go round and sell your service to the community, either to manage their gardens on a retained basis (for instance elderly people may like to have their garden maintained but are not physically able to do so)

Then there will also be larger contracts with big properties that are actually looking for a gardener, and the occasional larger project still.

You will need to have a great depth of knowledge of your field, plants, planting conditions. You will need a good eye for creativity and practicality, and be able to work to a budget that is provided.

Good planning and people skills are important, so as you can assimilate a brief and work to it.

You will tend to have a degree in a science related suject, often biological science, or agricultural science.

You will also need to be physically capable as there can be a lot of manual labour involved from time to time!
