German Art: 16th Century

Hobbies : Art

In this period a break was finally made with the centuries of Gothic tradition.

In its place for the first time came a real interest in landscape; almost obsessive at times!

You will see that great attention is played to this aspect of nature in much art work; and many portraits are composed with an open background allowing the landscape details to be put in place by the artist.

Animals start to be painted in much more detail; not just mere blobs of colour but with many painstaking small features reproduced with great talent and no doubt accuracy.
