You will find that after several months of networking you will automatically find out who's doing what, who's moving where, and the job opportunities ahead of time. Sometimes you might be able to get yourself onto a short list of one - find a job that no-one else knows about, declare your interest, have a quick chat and it's yours. The point is, that you should view networking as a necessary part of your career not just a nice-to-have. Who you know counts for more than what you know in many cases.
