You'll find that these days - at least in the UK - loads of people seem to be writing books and in order to sell a few extra copies, doing book signings. Often you will find that you don't need to go in person - you can phone up and get a reserved copy. All you have to do is buy the book and it will be signed for free by the person. Look in the paper and see who is signing in your area free. You can either keep the book as a treasured momento, or flog it on eBay (or other auction site!). Voila!
