How To Get Proofreading Work

Jobs

If you want to get proofreading work then you need to be pro-active. There are lots of people out there with varying levels of skills.

The first step is to start out targetting text and copy that you enjoy. Thus first find some books that you like at the bookstore. Note down the publisher of the books.

Then get a book called the Writers and Artists Yearbook or The Writers Handbook and have contact details for publishers.

Phone up the publisher and ask for the desk editor, or write to them once you have their name and then say what skills you have and what sort of book you would like to proof read: in other words, sell yourself!
