To get red wine out of a carpet - put salt on it to soak it up. Then when dry hoover the salt up. It usually works!

Another method that works is simply to pour some white wine over the stain and leave for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes soak up the excess wine with a teatowel and hopefully the red wine stain should have disappeared.

Further to the above, I've also found that using a nappy/diaper to soak it up can be very effective - it absorbs it all.

Also you could try some ammonia.

Other sites list salt as one that dosen't work, but I just tried it, and it seemed to work quite well. Now you can drink the white wine, instead of spilling it on your carpet!.
