Healthy Foods That Can Be Kept For Longer

Food And Drink : Great Food Tips

Here are some healthy snack food ideas to put in your cupboard for between meals.

Long life juice cartons or bottles arent as nice as the fresh stuff but they can be kept for a longer time as they are pasteurised and air tight. Their Vitamin C is protected and one glass still counts as one of your five a day.

Frozen veg and fruit is better to canned as it has more vitamin C in.Peas and sweetcorn are great, but you can also find spinach, broccoli, courgettes in the supermarket. Ideal for steaming or a stir fry.

Dried fruit also counts towards your five a day. It has a higher density of nutrients than in its fresh form, although some vitamins will have been lost during the drying process. Great for snacks! Make sure you go for unsulphered apricots though.

Nuts and seeds are great for snacks as well. They can be used in salads, stir frys or for baking.

Canned foods such as tuna, salmon, sardines, anchovies, chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils, tomatoes are all healthy to consume if you choose those with no added salt and sugar. Rinse them before using as well. Choose beans with no added salt or sugar, rinse them over when you open the can.
