Historian

Jobs : Job Profiles

As a historian, you research and look at past events, and provide interpretation on the past.

This is often an academic role, though you could be employed anywhere for instance in a government department.

You will tend to specialise in a particular region or period of time.

You will need good written skills, and ability to research in detail, think logically, and be a self starter. You will need persistence and determination and be able to work on your own for extended periods whilst doing research.

You may also go into teaching your subject if this appeals.

To work in universities as a historian you will need a PhD; there are little otherwise though perhaps you could become a research assistant in this eventuality.

As people increasingly look to the past and find out more, there are opportunities out there, so this is not a dying career path by any means.
