Interior Decorator
Jobs : Job Profiles This is one of those jobs that has spread from stately homes and large residences right down to the standard private home now. You will need a love of design, houses and furniture and their layout, as this role involves designing the inside of anything from a large hotel down to a private house. You will often specialise in a particular room - for instance the bathrooms. You will need good computer skills to design layouts on computer and manipulate - this is called computer aided design. Of course creativity is key, as is practicality - quickly discounting ideas that could never work in practice. There is great demand for this sort of work, but it can be hard to get into. There are some formal qualifications available and there are organisations that can help you to enter this market. Discussing your desires with a current interior designer can be a great in, and you may be able to gain experience through shadowing to see what the day to day job involves.
