Kakuro Tips

Games : Puzzles

There are many kakuro hints and tips sites, that list ways in which you can help solve a puzzle.

The most common tip given is to look for the small runs that have a high or low total to reduce the number of combinations.

One tip that you don't see too much can be very effective.

This tip is called simply Adding Up Areas.

It refers to the simple fact that the total of the digits in the grid as a whole must always add up to the same - whether you add horizontally or vertically.

You can use this in enclosed areas of the puzzle to work out what a certain number must be.

For instance, imagine that the difference between the sums of vertical and horizontal clues is3, then 3 will be the value of the cell that's in one area and not the other.
