Career : Leadership It is established fact humans work towards goals and targets. In other words, we are teleological, or goal based. Much research has shown - not surprisingly - that without goals and targets most of us just drift and are not so progressive. But with daily targets, montly profit targets, sales and production figures and so on, we have something to work towards, something to measure ourselves against, and in this way can try to get the best out of ourselves. So you should ensure that you set good and clear goals as a leader. Make sure they can be measured, that they are in line with company strategy, that they are achievable, that they have a suitable time element in them. There are all sorts of acronyms such as SMART or CSMART that you might like to look into in order to measure and ensure that the targets and goals you set are reasonable, fair and good for you and your employees and ultimately your company.
