The theory is that the fleas and larva will come in contact and ingest the salt - this causes them to dehydrate and thus to dry, in the same manner that you might have seen with salt and slugs. Apparently this works, and is worth a go because of course it is very cost effective and very safe - no nasty chemicals spread around the home, just some salt.
