How To Look After A Cactus

Gardening : Growing Plants

Indoor cacti are fairly simple to look after as they dont require daily care like many of other plants. These are perfect for people who dont have much time or aren't that great at gardening.

Place your cactus in a non-glazed clay pot and choose one that has a hole in the base so it can easily be drained.

Add potting mixture consisting of orchid bark, pearlite, potting soil, peat, coir, pumice and/or oak leaf mold for optimum results. Its best to repot your cactus around every 2 years so it has chance to grow bigger and stronger. Make sure you leave approx 2 inches between the potting mix and top of the pot.

Water your cactus once a week. You can test if it needs watering, by measuring the top half inch of the soil with your finger and if its dry, then it will need a drink!

Pour water on it slowly until you can see water appearing underneath the pot.

Your cactus will need a well lit area, like a bay window, an atrium or a bright entryway.

Always follow instructions that came with the plant before any other guidance. Outdoor plant care info may be different from indoor cacti.
