How To Look After Houseplants

Gardening : Growing Plants

If you have a plant thermometer you can determine easily when a plant needs water, but if not, feel the soil beneath the top covering - even if the top covering is dry underneath might still be moist, but if it is dry through and through, then it needs watering.

As a rule plants that are exposed to a lot of light will need to be watered more frequently than those kept in slighlty darker places.

When giving water to tropical plants, you should use warm water from a watering can. In between watering periods, it is also good for the plant if you use a spray to spritz some extra water onto the leaves.

When plantpots are sitting on a saucer, a lot of water may gather on this after watering, so make sure you drain it after 30 minutes or so as it is not good for the plant to be left standing in water.
