How To Lose A Moon

Education : Physics

There is a real life example of how to lose a moon, and our Earth is displaying it right now.

It's a little known fact to many, but the Moon is actually escaping the Earth. NASA measurements showed the distance to the Moon increased by about 4 cm every year between 1969 to 1981.

From this we can see that the Moon used to be much, much closer to the Earth - significantly closer if you go back a long period of time, and would have been larger in the sky, consequently.
