How To Make A Desk Cheaply

DIY : Building

If you need a desk to work on but you don't have very much money to spend, then there are a few ways of getting one relatively cheaply. This is especialy useful if you have just moved into a flat or house and do not have a huge budget for furniture. If you have a spare table, for example an old dining room table, then fit a tray for a keyboard underneath. You can add storage to it by placing a movable drawer unit or small filing cabinet underneath.

Another way is to go to a DIY store and buy a sheet of plywood, which can then be cut to the correct size and finished off by adding wood tape along the edges - this is self sticking and easy to apply. Support this sheet of wood again on a filing cabinet or some kind of storage units, and then if you need a computer on it, add a keyboard tray as above. Instead of buying the plywood, you can also use an old door cut to size, this will also work as a desktop if you have the right storage units to balance it on.

You can paint the wood any colour you want to go with the rest of the room's decor. Black and white are the most common colours, or if the wood will not take well to colouring, then just cover it with a cloth or special desk mat.
