Make A Small Space Look Bigger
Miscellaneous To create space and contrast, paint different areas to give each their own separate zone. Maybe paint your hall way a fun colour. It will look bigger than just one overall colour. Repeat prints or motifs in the kitchen and again throughout the hall way. Use light colours for floors. You can paint hard wood floors white, or if you have carpet then add some light coloured rugs to break it up. Sunlight bounces off floors so it will make the room like brighter and more spacious. Make eyes glance upwards by using artwork, stripes or draperies from floor to ceiling. Wall paper helps to emphasise high ceilings and large pieces of art bring the focus upwards. Drapes that hang at the edge of the ceiling and end on the floor will help this as well. Add in one or two over sized pieces of furniture to trick the eye into thinking the rest of the furniture looks smaller. It will also take the focus off the smallness of the room, and make it more interesting.
