If you have a an old piece of glass - maybe an old window pane or part of another old piece of furniture, and it is clean and not cracked etc, all you need to do is stack some old, hardback books under it in 3 or 4 piles, depending on the size of the glass, and then you have a low but utilitarian coffee table! The other method is to use an old piece of glass again, only this time balance it on top of a large storage basket. This means you have lots of hidden storage space under the glass. If you wish, you can cover the glass with a long table cloth for a more elegant look.
