How To Make Wrapping Paper

Religion And Culture : Presents

You can add a special touch to a gift by making your own wrapping paper. This does not need to be paper at all - why not try using leftover material to wrap presents?

You can use craft glue to seal the corners rather than sellotape, and you can choose colours and textures suitable to the season, so perhaps at Christmas you could use red velvet.

You can also paint directly onto a plain gift box, if you feel able to do so. Sometimes if your present is from the children too, or if they are giving a gift of their own, it looks especially nice when they decorate the box themselves.

Alternatively, get some brown paper for sending parcels and let them decorate this with paints and rubber stamps.

Use lots of ribbon to adorn your gifts, and learn how to make different kinds of bows. Metallic ribbon is particularly striking on gold and silver paper, or to embellish velvet or other materials.

You might also want to use gold and silver tissue paper for wrapping small items like jewellery, or other colours, together with ribbons and bows.

If you have a nice presentation box for something so it doesn't need wrapping, but you still want to add something to it, then why not just try some nice ribbon or a bow to make it a bit more personal.
