Mathematician

Jobs : Job Profiles

This is one of the oldest jobs there is, people have been fascinated by this academic discipline for millenia.

You will often work in advanced research departments for the government or in companies. You may work in industry or science or of course computing and engineering.

You will need an excellent knowledge of your suvject, and hence be able to analyse complex problems in a logical and clear manner. You should have clear communication skills in order to discuss often abstract problems with others.

You will need at least a degree, but usually a PhD in some specialised area. You may also consider going into teaching.

Whilst the actual job title 'mathematician' may be rare don't let this fool you into thinking that there aren't a cornucopia of related jobs out there that entail a heavy knowledge of this subject, because there are, and that will no doubt always be the case.
