Mythology And 15th Century Painting

Hobbies : Art

In the 15th century, during the time of the renaissance in Italy, mythology comes to the fore as a very popular subject.

Indeed, mythology dominates many paintings of the era.

There are as many mythological paintings as there are standard religious pictography in this time.

The artist could paint mythical creatures or gods, which usually are depicted as nudes.

Egg tempera is used as choice material through the paintings of this era; but towards the end of the century a move was made to oil which became more and more commonplace.

On occasion both tempera and oil were used in one and the same picture!
