Naturalism And Realism In Art

Hobbies : Art

In the 17th century, realism came back into fashion.

In part this was because people turned against the mannerist manner of painting, and the fairly contrived nature of some of the images created in this manner.

However realists fell into two schools.

One of these is the naturalist school which emphasised really 'extreme' forms of realism.

Typically religious in nature, the art works show the classic religious characters but in a contemporary setting - that is they are drawn as they probably would have looked - and in modern life settings.

All details are literally natural looking, and pictures will tend to draw the viewer into the picture.
