How To Negotiate Your Contract
Jobs : Job Search If you are at the stage of being offered a job, then congratulations. What comes next is the discussion over your contract. Depending on the role and level of the job, the discussions on the contract may take a minute or days and even weeks. For junior positions, the salary and benefits tend to set in stone and there is little you can do. However as you move up the ladder, these things tend to be a lot more flexible. When you receive the letter with your offer, or perhaps a phone call, then you will get a clear indication of all benefits: not just salary, but pension contributions, any health schemes - perhaps share options and so forth too. If you are happy with the salary then that's fine. If you want more then it's OK to say so as long as you don't say it aggressively or sound mortified. If you were expecting another ?1,000, then say so - and then it's up to them whether they match it, say no downright, or meet you halfway (the most common approach).
