Never Mention Salary In Your Job Search

Jobs : Job Search

When you are conducting a job search, it is natural of course to want to know how much money you will be paid.

However, patience is the key. You should only start talking financial terms once they have offered you the job.

Why? That's just the way it works. There is no point discussing it until you have an offer as if they don't take you then all the money in the world is irrelevant!

Also note that you should not reveal your salary at the moment too early.

Many applications ask for current salary. Why? Simple: they want to see how little they can get away with paying you.

BUT: if you say you earn a lot currently then they might exclude you thinking that they cannot afford you AND if it is too low they might think you are not qualified enough for the role and exclude you on that basis, too!

Therefore always try and sidestep requests for current moneys, with generic statements such as that you are confident salary will not prove a major stumbling block should they be impressed with you.
