Part 2j: Interview Mistakes: Not Achieving The Objective

Jobs : Successful Job Search Interview Process

Many interviews, for instance role plays, will have some particular aim, that is not necessarily associated with the job.

For instance, imagine that you are going for a job as a bank manager. You may have a role play with a customer. It may be reasonable to assume that you are expected to sell a product to that individual.

HOWEVER, if your brief is simply to make another appointment with that person then this is what you MUST do. This should be clear.

BUT, interviewers say it never ceases to amaze them how many people do not stick to the brief for whatever reason, and end up trying to sell the person a product or push them down an avenue that they do not want to go, hence not satisfying the brief nor the customer's need.

Therefore whatever the situation, you should make sure that you STICK to your brief - either your own, or the one given to you by the company.

There is nothing like that sinking feeling after the interview where you realise that you have not achieved the desired objective of the interview.
