Part 4n: What Not To Include In A Covering Letter

Jobs : Successful Job Search CV Covering Letter And Exams

Things that you should not do in a covering letter but many are guilty of:

- repeat the brochure back at them. They know what their literature says already! Also avoid sounding repetitive, and talking about 'I' all the time. Don't write to sir/madam, or make it illegible and full of spelling errors.

- don't get the job title wrong! If applying for a Senior Project Manager role, don't say Project Manager for instance.

- don't write large paragraphs

- don't fill it with jargon. You have years in the job to learn that!

- don't use generalisations. Be specific. What is it about them that you like?

- don't go over more than one page on a covering letter unless EXPLICITLY told to by the company
