Jobs : Job Profiles As a photographer, you will be responsible for creating the permanent record of a wide range of results that the client wants. If that sounds like a tall order, then it can be. Therefore you need excellent technical skills - knowledge of the right camera and film and lens for any event to respond to light conditions and know what will work best. You need good communication skills too, and often a good creative eye is necessary. Patience and determination are also crucial - to get the right shot many photographers will go to extreme lengths and endure harsh conditions to get the shot that they are after. You also need to be original and see in your eye what will look good on paper, which often comes with practice over a period of time. Many photographers study photojournalistm or photography at college or degree level. Often you can learn on the job and in some cases even turn a hobby into a full time profession. Demand for images to fill magazines and our growing media are a must and as such there is work out there though of course there is competition too. You need to build up a good portfolio, constantly update and learn new skills, and be flexible in where you are able to travel on assignments too.
