How To Prepare For A Salary Appraisal

Career : Salary

If you are having a salary appraisal or performance review meeting, then the first thing you need is information!

Therefore before the meeting (a week or two before) make sure you ask your boss for a feeler as to what salary you will get and how your performance is going.

You will then know what sort of thing will happen in the meeting and be able to prepare accordingly.

If you want more salary than you think will be on offer, then make sure to prepare a solid case that you can back up with evidence and hard facts (feedback and numbers if necessary) so that your boss cannot disagree and say that your case is just subjective. Make it objective.

Always stay calm in meetings like this and be positive and immodest! Remember also that it is a bad idea to try to downplay the role other colleagues played on a project to boost your own - rather concentrate solely on what you did and what you achieved.
