How To Prepare For Christmas

Miscellaneous

Write your cards in plenty of time so they get there before the big day. Remember postal services are slower in December. Final deadlines for overseas delivery is 11th Dec, first class to UK addresses is 21st Dec, and second class is 18th Dec.

Book train tickets as far in advance as possible to get the cheapest journey. Engineering work and reduced services over this time are quite common. If you’re going by car, find the quickest route with the AA’s route planner.

Don't miss out on the final delivery dates for online shopping as well. Sometimes this can be as early as 16th Dec.

If you are away then let a trusted neighbour know, so they can look after your house. Turn burglar alarms and security lights on and hide expensive items.

Time your heating while you are away so that it comes on for a short time every day at a low temperature, as this will make sure the pipes don’t freeze if the weather is cold, while keeping costs down too.

If you do Christmas shopping during the sales in January you will get better deals. Maybe buy your cards a year in advance for example, as shops will want to get rid of surplus stock.
