How To Protect Your Pipes In Cold Weather

DIY : Home Repair

If you have any taps outside, make sure you cover them well so that they are not exposed to the freezing temperatures. You can buy special insulation for taps in DIY stores, but you can also make do with an old, thick towel - just wrap it tightly around the tap and secure it.

Don't use the outside tap in the winter, and don't use hoses either. Never leave a hosepipe out in the cold weather, always make sure they are drained and then store them in a dry place.

Try and protect any pipes that might be exposed to the cold with some form of insulation. You can check in a DIY store for the right kind, depending on the type of pipe. Foam insulation is suitable for most pipes and is quite easy to apply, but it is better to ask for advice before you buy.
