The reason is that these will save you money, and you will notice that lights half on are usually just as effective for any task other than reading the newspaper. Overall dimmer switches can save you a lot of money. Especially effective if you leave a light on overnight, for instance a landing light - just use a dimmer switch and save lots of money!
