How To Reduce Salt Intake

Health And Fitness : Weight Loss

The key fact to remember here is that, according to experts, something in the region of 70% of your salt intake comes from processed foods.

That is truly a massive amount of salt - 70%!

Therefore, you should try to reduce your use of processed foods. There are other tips, too:

- if you add salt to water when cooking veg to add flavour, try to cut it out or at least reduce

- fond of sprinkling salt all over your food before a meal? Consider cutting this out or reducing as much as you can

- when you buy foods, read the label. If it has a high salt content, try to find an alternative product. Many foods now have warnings with regards the level of salt and other ingredients in their products

- always try to go for fresh food. That's because salt is mainly used as a preservative, so with fresh food is less of an issue. Foods that need to last a long period of time are more likely to contain the most salt.
