How To Remember Anything: Create A Story

Self Development : Brain Power

The story method of remembering items is also known by some as the linking method.

The key is that you combine elements that may be disparate and have no link (and therefore be hard to remember) into something that is easier to remember, like a logical story.

Just like key ideas are remembered and passed down through stories (for instance many biblical events were told in stories as they are easier to remember and pass down and so on) so you can use this idea to remember anything at all.

Thus if you are creating a shopping list but don't want to or don't have paper, then you can memorise the list by combining them into some short of small story that makes them linked rather than isolated.

You then use each link in the chain to help you remember the rest of the chain.
