How To Remove Cat Ticks

Pets : Cats

You should check your cat for ticks everytime it comes in from the outside.

Ensure that you use gloves as you don't want any health issues for instance disease being given to you. Feel for small lumps under the fur, and if you feel one look down.

Remember that ticks are a very dark colour and also small so easily missed; around the size of a couple of millimetres round.

However sometimes they can be a lot larger.

You should ensure, once found, that your pet is comfortable and then use tweezers close to the skin - but not pulling the skin.

Try to use a straight action rather than sideways pull. Dispose of the tick (kill it first) and remember to clean your tweezers before next use.

Ticks are very difficult to get off, but they can be very dangerous if not removed. When I went on holiday I came back to find my cat covered in them. He was very lethargic and he wasn't eating, I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't removed them! There are some treatments/sprays you can buy and they usually successfully kill the ticks, but they still stay attched to your cat, so yes, you do have to use tweezers, your cat really will not like it, but it has to be done.

My cat has had 2 ticks recently the first it seem had not got in to his skin probably so with that one we were able to get his comb underneath the tick then cut his fur just below the comb. since that happened i purchased a tick remover tool from a web site and last night we found another tick on him so we used this tool and the tick came out so easy and the cat did not mind at all. I would recommend that you buy this item as it is great.

Hi Stephanie
You mentioned about a tick removal tool you purchased, but you did not say where from or what it is called, can you please let me know as I am looking for some help in removing these parasites from my cats.
Cheers
Pat
