| Business : Starting Up In Business If you are running a business that provides any sort of product, whether it be an online service or a tangible, real life object, then you should always strive to ensure that everything is standardised. For instance, if you sell sweets, and some packs have 7 in whilst others have 12 in, you aren't going to shift a lot of product and it will be hard to calculate your packaging, margins, the weight of each bag - and customers won't be happy! If you are providing an online service, then you should ensure that everyone receives the same service and same level of support for that service. Standards make it easier to plan and budget. They make it easier to keep track of expenditure, what is happening, what could go wrong, and give you peace of mind and certainty. They are also great at cutting costs. If there are teams that are duplicating effort by doing some process in different ways, then look to standardise this as well.
