Search Engine Ranking: Be Specific
| Computing : Search Engine Optimisation One of the most important aspects of getting your pages to rank well in search engines is to be precise in what you say. We have a habit in everyday english to use abstract words such as 'thing' and pronouns such as 'he, she, it'. However, with web copy, you should always be specific. Thus if you are selling reduced software, don't start a sentence with 'our software', but rather say 'our reduced software' - focus in and hone in on exactly what it is that you have on offer. It makes sense - how many websites have the words 'our software' in them - answer - millions, no doubt. Therefore it would be hard for a search engine to rank you on that alone. How many contain the phrase 'reduced software' - well, still an awful lot, but not as many. Therefore be selective in the phrases that you target, try to keep them both terms that are specific but likely to be searched on (it can be a hard balance to strike) and then say what you mean in your copy. Good luck!
