How To Set Practice Questions

Education : Exams And Revision

Setting practice questions is an important part of exam revision.

As your tutor will no doubt tell you, reading and researching information is all well and good - and an important part of revision - but that the process is completed by actually doing questions.

It may be that your textbooks will have many sample questions and in which case, complete these.

However if you need to make up your own questions then pick a particular topic and ask yourself to write five facts about that topic.

Thus if you choose photosynthesis, challenge yourself to write down five important facts about it.

Thus you might write down the common equation for photosynthesis, the products of the reaction and the inputs to the reaction.

You might write about green cells and plants, or you might write down the environmental consequence of the process and the key difference between plants and animals.

By writing broad questions you can check the depth of your knowledge and see what you have missed out on each topic in your revision when you then re-read your notes and see what you have missed out.

Also try to do as many practice questions as you can on each topic: different wording might tease out different aspects and areas of differing importance for you.
